Outdoor Activities & Attractions Established in 1902, but not incorporated until 1988, Sedona is one of the best vacation values in the west. Named after the early settler Sedona Schnebly, Sedona is surrounded by the Coconino National Forest and covers parts of two north-central Arizona counties, Coconino and Yavapai, which offers easy access to the natural wealth and historical artifacts that are spread throughout the region. The top attractions that are just out of town include Red Rock State Park and Slide Rock State Park. Additionally, Grand Canyon National Park, located an hour north of Sedona, is an easy day trip. There are also two national monuments nearby, Tuzigoot and Montezuma Castle, which feature prehistoric dwelling once inhabited by the Sinagua people. If you are looking for some fun and excitement, grab your camera and a comfortable pair of shoes and set out on an incredible adventure here in Sedona Arizona.
